The short answer
FourKites fits large supply chains that want tracking across road, rail, ocean and air, with AI agents working on top of it. Its press material describes global enterprises and more than 1,600 brands. It is not only for shippers: its CarrierLink listing on Google Play says drivers get loads assigned by shippers and brokers, so a broker can end up on it, particularly one whose shipper customers already use it.
Look at the alternatives if you want a person to approve what your customers read and FourKites cannot show you that setting in a demo, or if your day is mostly truck freight and you do not need the other modes.
We sell one of the alternatives. Everything said about FourKites here comes from its press material, its Google Play listing and trade coverage, listed at the bottom with the date we read them.
What FourKites does well
Scale comes first. The October 2026 announcement says its network connects "1,600+ brands, 500,000+ carriers and 3.6 million facilities across 176 countries." A May 2026 Logistics Viewpoints piece put the carrier count at 1.1 million, so ask what each number covers. Either way, LoadSignal has no network of that kind: each load is tracked from the driver's phone, the carrier's share link or an ELD connection.
Drivers have a simple way in. The Google Play listing calls CarrierLink "a free, easy to use and time saving app for truck drivers" and says they can send automatic location updates. A free driver app removes one reason a small carrier might refuse to connect, though the listing does not say what a broker pays, and we found no published price.
The AI work is broad. Trade coverage names Tracy for track and trace, Sam for suppliers, Alan for appointment scheduling, Polly for document compliance and Cassie for customer service. IT Brief reported that Tracy can proactively contact carriers, and it quoted Unilever on early results. FourKites says Cassie has the potential to handle up to 80% of standard customer service requests. Those are FourKites' own descriptions, so test them in a demo. LoadSignal is in early access and has no comparable track record.
Who approves the message
FourKites sells autonomy, and it says so directly. The October 2026 announcement says its agents "resolve problems on a customer's behalf instead of flagging them" and calls that "autonomous execution." IT Brief reported in July 2025 that, according to FourKites, Cassie responds instantly to tracking queries and provides custom updates. For a shipper with a very large volume of routine questions, that is a reasonable thing to buy.
A brokerage has a different risk. Your customer relationship may be the business, and one wrong delay message carries your name. FourKites does keep people in some decisions: Logistics Viewpoints describes a stockout workflow with "a human in the loop to select the best recommendation with a single click." The sources we read do not say whether a person can approve a customer message before it goes out, and that tells you nothing certain about the product, so ask for the setting and see it working.
At LoadSignal, a person stays in that step by default. The Track & Trace Operator is off until you turn it on, and its customer drafts always wait for a person. Your organization can opt in to automatic milestone emails, scheduled status emails and answers to "where is my truck?" messages, one choice at a time. Driver reminders can run on their own within limits you set per rule.
At a glance
The FourKites column uses the sources listed at the bottom, read on November 2, 2026.
| Compare | FourKites | LoadSignal |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Global enterprises and large brands across road, rail, ocean and air; brokers can assign loads through CarrierLink | US brokers, carriers and 3PLs moving truck freight, roughly a hundred to a couple of thousand loads a month |
| Position sources | CarrierLink driver app and a network of 500,000+ carriers, by its own count; ask how your carriers would connect | Driver app, browser link, carrier share links, and Samsara and Motive ELD connections (Beta) |
| When something goes wrong | AI agents contact carriers and resolve problems on the customer's behalf, by its own description | Eleven detectors raise the load in a ranked queue; your rules decide what follows |
| Customer messages | AI responds to tracking queries and sends custom updates; ask whether a message can be held for approval | AI drafts wait for a person by default; automatic emails are opt-in |
| Price | CarrierLink is free on Google Play; we found no published price for brokers or shippers | No list price. Quote based on load volume |
Other options
Descartes MacroPoint is the nearest match in reach, and it publishes per-load figures in its own articles. Trucker Tools is owned by DAT, starts tracking from a driver's phone number and offers load board tools. project44 belongs on the list if a shipper requires it, and LoadSignal can send positions into a shipper's project44 shipment (Beta), so the two can sit side by side.
If you already pay for FourKites and use a fraction of it, you may not need to replace it at all. Ask whether the part you use could run next to a tool that handles the daily follow-up.
Where LoadSignal fits, and where it does not
LoadSignal is for the dispatcher who has a board full of loads and needs to know which ones want a person. It sits beside your TMS, checks active loads with eleven detectors on a five-minute schedule and on load events, and ranks what needs attention with the next action. Thresholds, recipients and templates belong to your organization. Each alert shows where its evidence came from and how old it is, and when a driver texts back, the reply is read and checked against the truck's GPS before anything is applied or proposed.
Drivers can use the app, a browser link or their carrier's ELD. ETAs are a planning estimate, not a guarantee.
FourKites is the better fit if you need more modes than truck, or agents for supplier and appointment work. Look past us as well if you need EDI, which we do not offer, or if your procurement team requires SOC 2: we have not completed a third-party audit, and the security page says so. Our TMS connections are in beta and set up with you, and we have no public customer references yet.
Questions for the demo
Bring these to any vendor, including us. Show me the setting that holds a customer message for approval, and who can change it. Show me the log for one load with every message the AI sent, to whom, and on what evidence. What does a dispatcher see for a load with no position at all? Which of these agents are live today, and which are on a roadmap? What does a brokerage pay, and is it per load, per outcome or something else?
Then run the answers against freight you already moved. Our demo scorecard has the rest of the list, and what to do when a carrier stops tracking is a good test case to hand any vendor. To try LoadSignal on one lane, request early access or contact sales for a quote.
