Track and trace for freight brokers
Track and trace is the work of knowing where every load is and catching the ones that slip. LoadSignal handles the routine monitoring and configured follow-up, so dispatchers can work the exceptions with the load's history in front of them.
The function, not a feature
On paper, track and trace is simple: know where every active load is, notice when one stops going to plan, and tell the customer before the customer asks. In practice it is a standing workload that scales with the board. Every load added is another one to watch, and the watching does not stop at five o'clock.
Brokerages staff it three ways: dedicated track and trace people, an outside service working the call list overnight, or no one in particular, meaning the dispatchers absorb it between everything else. In that last arrangement, the time comes out of booking freight, resolving exceptions and talking to customers.
What the job is all day
A track and trace operator's day is a loop. Work through the active loads. Call or text the driver on each one. Log the position. Chase the carriers who didn't answer. Watch for appointments about to slip. When something is wrong, raise it with the dispatcher who owns the load. When a customer emails asking where their freight is, find out and reply. Then start the loop again.
Nearly all of that loop is confirming that nothing has happened. The valuable part, the reason the role exists, is the handful of moments a day when something has: a truck sitting still for an hour, a driver gone quiet, a delivery window that stopped being reachable. Everything else is the cost of finding those moments by hand.
What software can carry
The loop automates well, because most of it is watching. LoadSignal takes position from the driver app, a browser link, a supported carrier share link, or a direct ELD connection in beta. Eleven detectors check active loads on a five-minute schedule and on relevant events for conditions such as tracking gone stale, stopped mid-transit, off the corridor, running at an appointment, a POD missing after delivery, and the rest. The chasing automates too: a driver who hasn't accepted a dispatch or gone quiet can receive a reminder under the rules your team enables.
What lands in front of your team is the moment the role exists for, already found: the load that needs a decision, with the context and a recommended action. The confirming-nothing-happened part of the loop stops being anyone's day.

The Track & Trace Operator
LoadSignal's action layer is named after the job. The Track & Trace Operator acts on open exceptions at an autonomy level you choose per rule: record what it would have done, draft and wait for approval, or act on its own. Driver reminders can run fully automated; customer drafts from the Operator always wait for approval. The Operator is off by default and follows your per-rule attempt limit. Its actions are recorded on the load with the recipient and time. Scheduled customer status emails are separate and run only after your team enables them.
What happens when nobody picks up an alert
The part that stays human
Software does not call a receiver's dock to beg a later window, rebook a load off a broken-down truck, or judge whether this customer needs a phone call rather than an email. That work still needs a person who knows the freight. Automation gives that person the exception, the supporting evidence and the follow-up history before they make the call.
